Device safety
A camera device stays unlocked and signed in to Mantis while it streams. Set it up so that someone who takes it cannot leave the Mantis page or reach your own data.
What someone who takes the device can do
Without the steps below, anyone holding the device can stop the stream, open your recordings in the same browser, and switch to your other apps, messages and photos.
Lock the device to this page with Guided Access
- Open Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access and turn it on.
- Open Passcode Settings and set a Guided Access passcode that is different from the device passcode.
- Open Display Auto-Lock and choose Never, so the screen stays on and the stream keeps running.
- Open Mantis in the browser, choose the camera and start streaming.
- Press the side button (or the Home button) three times. Under Options, turn off Touch, so nobody can press Stop. Then tap Start.
- To end Guided Access, press the same button three times again and enter the Guided Access passcode.
Keep your own data apart
- iPhone and iPad have no second user, so Guided Access is what keeps your other apps closed.
- Use a spare device with no personal accounts if you can. If not, sign out of email, messages and payment apps on it.
On every device
- Keep the device on its charger and out of easy reach.
- Set a strong device passcode, different from the Guided Access or pinning one where you can.
- Turn on Find My (Apple) or Find My Device (Google), so you can find or erase the device if it is taken.
